Do You Hear The Call?
My wife Glorimar and I began to train for the ministry in Central New Jersey in 2002. It was a dream of ours since we became Christians in New York City in 1997 to be in the full-time ministry. I distinctly remember coming out of the waters of baptism and thinking I wanted to be an evangelist one day and devote my life to helping people to truly know God. In January 2003, my wife and I were asked to lead a new sector we called the Shore Ministry. Unfortunately it barely got off the ground because of the turmoil that permeated through our fellowship of churches. God was surely disciplining us.
Suddenly the full-time ministry was no longer an appealing career choice. I had not yet quit my job as a data communications technician because of the uncertainty in the church’s finances at the time. The time came when I needed to make a decision. I asked myself if I still wanted to do the ministry. Moreover, was I willing to leave my current, secure, well-paying job to work for a church in the midst of a huge transition with a less than ideal financial situation. I was married with two small children to support as well. I prayed some very specific prayers and waited on God to make it clear.
Ultimately I made a decision that was completely illogical to the world: I left my career to go full-time in the ministry. I decided this because I was convinced that I was called by God. People still ask me today how I came to my decision. Was I scared? I was not. I felt completely secure in the midst of chaos because I was convinced that I was called by God. By 2004 I was appointed an evangelist and together with my wife we have helped to lead the church in Central NJ since then.
Who Will Go for Us to the Jersey Shore?
Today we look for another couple who believes God is calling them to the full-time ministry. We seek a couple to lead a mission team of enthusiastic disciples to the Jersey Shore in 2011. The team will be based in Ocean County, New Jersey which is home to over 500,000 people from all walks of life. We would like a couple who already has some ministry training but is committed to continue to get trained in their knowledge of the Word of God as well as the practical training needed to lead effectively.
Together with the New York City Church we will provide spiritual training to not only the lead couple but all the members of the team. We are also open to having a single man and woman leading the team. So if you are single but believed you have been called by God do not hesitate to contact us.
If you are interested in being considered to lead the team please contact Johnny Rivera at jrivera@cjcoc.org. We hope to hear from you. Please pray for us as we prepare to bring Jesus to the Jersey Shore!
