Did you know?

  • Many of our brother and sisters in our hemisphere live in extreme poverty.

  • Many of them and their children go to bed hungry because they do not have enough resources for food.

  • Many of them cannot buy medicine for themselves of their children.

  • Many of them drink water full of parasites and bacteria.

  • Many attend schools where than 34% of teachers are qualified to teach and gang violence takes the lives of children

Now that you do know, you may ask "Why does God allow it? God is asking Christians the same question, "Why do we allow it?"

Not knowing has never been an excuse.

"For I was hungry, and you gave me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited me in."

~ Matthew 25:35

Jesus’ Response:

The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’ “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’ These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”

I Was Hungry COVID-19 Relief Update

I want to update you on the response of  our appeal for donations.

Dear Brother and Sisters,

First of all thank you to all the generous disciples who helped raised over $30,000 to help feed disciples throughout Central America, Mexico and Venezuela in less than two weeks. We also want to appeal to other disciples in helping us feed disciples in this time of great need. We sent the most of the money out already and more will be going next week. We are getting pleas for more help as more disciples are losing their jobs and have no money to buy food. The situation is getting so critical that some have said they rather die from Covid-19 than the slow pain of starvation. Disciples continue to buy food and supplies in bulk with the money we send them and use their own money so they can deliver on the days that they are allowed to leave their homes to feed as many as possible. They need our help as the ones who use their own resources are also stretched financially and will soon not have enough for their own needs. Your help is desperately needed. Please join us in answering their cries and prayers for their daily bread by donating at

www.cjcoc.org/iwhungry where 100% of money collected will be sent out to various countries we serve.

About the I Was Hungry Ministry

I Was Hungry was started five years ago to address the issue of hunger among our brothers and sisters, where the average disciple makes less than $13 a day and where children were going to sleep without eating all day. We wanted to hear Jesus say to us someday, "I was hungry and you gave me something to eat."

THE RESULTS: We have fed over 500 disciples throughout Central America, Mexico and are now adding Venezuela with a total of nine churches where members are being supported.
HOW: Disciples sponsor families of disciples and have the ability to communicate and build relationships with the family or individual they sponsor.
WHO: We prioritize by widows, elderly, disabled, sick, single moms, and other disciples in extreme poverty or temporary crisis. Those physically able to work are encouraged to learn English, computer skills, pursue higher education , sewing or other programs that become available as way of increasing their income and break break the cycle of poverty.
VISION: Our vision is that every church starts an I was Hungry ministry and sponsors a third world church so that someday there will not be a hungry disciple in the entire kingdom.

There are options for one-time giving and annual or monthly sponsorship of a family. 100% of tax-deductible donations go to the country where we serve. The I Was Hungry ministry is run by volunteers and all fees for wiring and PayPal/Tithe.ly fees are paid by the Central Jersey Church of Christ (with the option to cover your own fees). The work is overseen by the elders of the Central Jersey Church of Christ.

Thank you again.
